Karel Bergmann, the older brother of our father, was born May 25th, 1921; three years and three days before our father. Karel was a very nice and gentle person in contrast to our father who \u2013 by his own word – was quite troublesome as a kid. Karel liked to collect stamps and enjoyed seeing the rare collection of uncle Zdenko. As a teenager Karel opened his eyes to girls and enjoyed life, maybe one of the reasons that he always was lacking money.
\nWhen our father was asked to return all his Czech money to his father the evening before leaving for Denmark, he directed some of the money to Karel. The lovely, warm and shy smile he received from Karel has warmed our father\u2019s heart ever since.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
