Mary was born in Bielsko-Bia\u0142a, Poland in 1921. Her mother, Selma, would refer to her as ein Musterkind<\/em> (a perfect child). She went to the School for Women\u2019s Occupations in Podskalk\u00e1 Street, Prague \u2013 its goal was to train women to be good housewives. In October 1941 she married Jan Winter, who was murdered in Majdanek in 1942.<\/p>\n
