Dear Susanne, dear Fritz, little Eva and little Vera,
\nMimka and Alice often remembered you, they used to come to Dresden often. For all of us who have not had the opportunity to know you, you are extremely close to us thanks to these memories. Loving parents and little, beautiful, talented girls did not deserve the cruel fate of the Holocaust. We will not forget you.
\nAccording to the photos and my mother’s story, Eva was a beautiful and smart girl. My mom and Eva were cousins and were also great friends. While my mother (Emilie Bass) got to accompany the children to England in time thanks to N. Winton, Eva was not so lucky. Winton’s train to take her and her sister Vera to England was due to leave on September 2, 1939, but the day before the war started. Even in Terez\u00edn during the Holocaust, young people were falling in love. Eva met Alfred Kantor there. Alfred survived the Holocaust, Eva perished in Auschwitz. After the war, Alfred published a book (“Testimony”) with drawings that documented life in Terez\u00edn, and he also writes about Eva.
