Datab\u00e1ze holocaust<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"Karol\u00edna Ascherov\u00e1, n\u00e9e Klauberov\u00e1, married into the prominent commercial Ascher family. In the 1800’s and into the 20th century members of the family owned shops selling fabric, haberdashery and also groceries, in Prague, \u0158\u00ed\u010dany and Kolod\u011bje.<\/p>\n

Her husband was Leopold Ascher (1858-1920), the second son of Barbara and Josef Ascher. In the mid 19th century Josef Ascher had opened the first ever fabric shop in Prague and probably also ran a grocery shop in Kolod\u011bje, at No. 31 U Kosin\u016f Street, where they lived. In 1905 Leopold and\u00a0Karol\u00edna bought a farmhouse near\u00a0Leopold’s birthplace and settled there permanently.\u00a0This building now houses the Prague-Kolod\u011bje Municipal Office.\u00a0They had three children, only two of them lived to adulthood. Leopold died in 1920, but Karol\u00edna continued to live in the house into World War II.\u00a0On the 8th of September 1942\u00a0she was taken from Kolod\u011bje, deported to Terez\u00edn on September 12th and on October 15th transported to the Treblinka extermination\u00a0camp, where she, together with others, was murdered\u00a0immediately\u00a0after leaving the train.<\/p>\n

After 1948, the house became the property of the municipality and the seat of the Municipal Council of the MIA, since 1989 the Prague-Kolod\u011bje Municipal Council.<\/p>\n

Her adult children did not learn about their mother’s death in Treblinka until after the war. Daughter Zde\u0148ka Ascherov\u00e1 Kohnov\u00e1 had left for Palestine with her husband and children in March 1939. She died in 1984. Son Arno\u0161t (Ernst) Ascher\u00a0emigrated to Paris before the war. He\u00a0was a painter, and also dealt in African and Oriental art and antiques, which he supplied to Pablo Picasso and Amedeo Modigliani, both of whom he befriended.<\/p>\n
