Quido Bergmann, our grandfather, was born August 10th, 1889, and was later married to Berta Herschmann, our grandmother who died in 1934. They had two sons: Karel and Adolf Bergmann, our late father.
Quido had a leather wholesale company – a business with international connections.
The business was good and at some time the family had both a maid and a driver – a Skoda off cause.
Our grandfather was quite religious, kept Jewish traditions and had seats in two different synagogues. He was active in different organizations; B’nai Brit and the Zionist movement and he was also focusing on giving charity. He also had a seat at the stadium of Sparta Prague, as he enjoyed football.
Quido was a family-man, took care of his mother and kept connection to the older generations by weekly visits to the Jewish cemetery with our father and his older brother.
Discipline and learning were important, but he was also very caring for his two sons and his stepson, Richard, who was part of the family after he remarried in 1935.
Quido, our grandfather, showed our father in the age of 15, his ultimate love by in October 1939 to send him by train with other young Jewish girls and boys to Denmark. This is the direct reason why we can stand here – up to 4 generations later.
The combination of discipline, caring for other humans and knowing what was right and wrong was a leading star for our father throughout his life. Therefore, we honor Quido Bergmann for what he did for his family, our father and therefore for us as well.
